Camogie

It was an early start for all, leaving from the Gare at 5am.
Even with the rusty limbs after a long journey, the ladies limbered up quickly and emerged victorious from a match which wasn’t their best display of the day against Belgium B. Things improved against the Belgium A team. A one point margin sealed the deal for the Lux Ladies against the team who would finally emerge as the day’s victors.
Zurich were the next opponents. Zurich seemed sharper but didn’t play Lux off the field. The match against Paris however was the highlight of the day for all; With a difference of 4 points at the final whistle after scoring 5-3, Paris emerged deserved winners, but were glad to hear the final whistle.
The last match of the day was the 3rd and 4th place playoff in which Lux lost to Zurich for the second time, but by a lesser margin. (Longer review here.)
Hurling

Luxembourg hurler’s first outing of 2011 was in Den Haag on Saturday May 7th. We competed in group games against Belgium, Zurich and finally hosts Den Haag. The opening game against Belgium was a tight affair with both teams level at half time. Unfortunately Belgium got the upper hand slightly in the second period and ran out winners by two points. The second game against Zurich saw a much sharper Swiss team comfortably claim victory. Pride was restored against Den Haag in the final group game with scores frequently going over for Luxembourg. we ended up on the wrong side of the scoreline once more but a much improved performance. The entire squad was used on the day itself and great encouragement has to be taken on the fact that 17 hurlers lined out at different stages during the day for Luxembourg. The tournament showed us where we were at and the work that lies ahead. we will enjoy the challenge at we return to training next week.
