The pale moon was rising above the Ardennes this morning after Luxembourg GAA’s very own Nicola McEvoy took the 2012 International Rose of Tralee title.
Painting the other Roses green with envy (along with Daithaí Ó Sé’s wife and boyfriend Eamonn with all the kisses), Nicola charmed and delighted her way through the 7-day festival concluding her performance with an incredible rendition of La Vie en Rose on the first night, along with regaling us with stories of giving school exams to her teddy bears!
Nicola looked genuinely shocked as the result was announced, but it was not just in The Black Stuff were everyon thought she deserved it, Paddy Power had her firm favourite after her stage performance.
Ronan O’ Gara may have faced some high pressure situations before, but such was his excitement at being face to face with Nicola he even forgot to remove the old sash before placing the new one on, but we’ll let him away with that in case Eamonn Dunne makes another voodoo doll.
Nicola, we are unbelievably proud of you and wish you the very best in your new adventure as the 2012 Rose of Tralee.

Has Eamonn Dunne turned to the dark arts since he has been sidelined?
Tune in to RTE tonight to see if Eamonn’s voodoo doll can help Nicola McEvoy take the 2012 Rose of Tralee title after her sterling performance last night.

The GSCL attended the European Hurling and Camogie Championship finals held in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on July 14th. This was the first occasion that the finals were held off the continent. It was a very successful tournament for both teams each reaching a final place of 4th, but with some tasty wins throughout the day, 2013 will be a year to look forward to. Great support from family and friends was much appreciated by the players – who gave a great account of themselves on front of representatives from Cumann Luthchleas Gael, and also the President of the Cumann Camogaiochta, Aileen Lawlor. On Saturday night – Paris Gaels were crowned Camogie Champions for 2012, and Den Haag GAA were presented their winners trophy with a clean sweep of 4/4 hurling tournaments this year. However, for those hurling and camogie lovers amongst you, fear not, there will be one last hurrah in the form of the Maastricht 7’s Camogie and Hurling which the GSCL hopes to field in both codes on August 11th, then we’ll really have to put away the sticks for 2012….

The Gaelic Sports Club of Luxembourg is proud to host Round 3 of the Hurling and Camogie Championships, on the 9th June from 10am, under the patronage of the Irish Ambassador, His excellency, Diarmuid O’ Leary. The tournament is being held in partnership with FC Avenir Beggen, who have provided their soccer grounds for the event. Teams from Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands and France will participate.
It promises to be a great day of sport, with the potential for the Championship to be decided as the Hague have won 2/2 tournaments in Hurling and Paris have won 2/2 in Camogie. The Championship is decided on the best of 3/4 rounds with the final round for 2012 being held in Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland in July this year.
It has been 24 months since there has been Hurling and Camogie championship round held in Luxembourg, and in this time new sponsors have come on board – Decibel Bar in Hollerich who sponsor the ladies team, and Eirelux Supplies who sponsor the men’s team. There will be plenty of refreshments available on the day, and support is gladly welcome. The facilities are fantastic in FC Avenir Beggen which means that it will be a good day for viewing, whatever the weather. For more information, keep an eye on this site or email: secretary.luxembourg.europe@gaa.ie.
